Sacred Cacao

What is Sacred Cacao?
Cacao is a plant native to Central and South America that has been used historically by the Aztecs and Mayans for medicinal and ritualistic purposes. Its scientific name Theobroma Cacao actually means “food for the Gods” and it was believed to have been sent from the heavens as a gift to mankind.
Most cacao that you come by today has been processed and roasted in such a way that it loses most of its health and spiritual benefits. Ceremonial cacao however is cultivated and prepared in the traditional way so that it retains the spirit of cacao as well as its remedying properties so that it can be used in ceremony.
Why does ALUNA use Sacred Cacao?
Cacao can open the heart and allow you to connect with yourself and others in a deeper, more loving way. Very gently the plant enables you to connect with your inner spirit and wisdom, allowing for more profound meditation and to focus more on the present moment: Its remedying properties work on your mind and soul.
You will become aware of things that have been keeping you from living the life you love and receive strength in letting them go. The plant will help help you find mental clarity and balance.
How does a Sacred Cacao ceremony look like?
The way we use any plant medicine at ALUNA's is always in a sacred ceremonial setting.
We respect the plant as a living being, as medicine, as our teacher and believe in its sacred properties. Therefore we create sacred space before we preform our ceremonies.
In addition we believe that setting an intention is very essential for manifesting healing.
Setting an intention before any meditation, plant journey, or even your day can be a powerful practice because it’s the first step to embodying that which you want.
Wayne Dyer said, “Our intention creates our reality.” And how many times have you heard “What you think, you become,” or “Thoughts become things”? When we are focusing our mind on a specific intention, you are bringing it to your focused mind, your thoughts, your heart … and in turn helping to bring it into reality. Once we have shared our intention with the group we ingest the Sacred Cacao. We usually drink one cup of the sacred brew. While we wait for the Cacao to do its magic we will do some toning and mantra chanting together.
We then lay down for a breath work session. Breath work is a powerful tool in combination with the cacao. Through the enormous amount of oxygen released in the blood stream the cacao works on a very deep level and can bring some great transformation and healing. During the breath work we will play either a beautifully selected playlist or play the drum, flute or singing bowl.
After the ceremony we will come back together in circle to share our experiences.
